Belgium's yearly inflation rate climbed to 8.3% in March from the previous 8.04%, the highest in the country since 1983, when it was 8.92%, as reported by Statbel, the Belgian statistical office, on Wednesday.
The high inflation is because of the increasing energy prices "in recent months." Energy inflation stands at 57.22%, compared to 60.99% the previous month. Moreover, electricity jumped by 49.9%, and natural gas went up by 148.8% annually.
"In March, the most significant price increases were registered for motor fuels, natural gas, fruit, personal care products, domestic heating oil, the purchase of vehicles, maintenance and repair of vehicles and airplane tickets," noted the report.
