United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stressed on Wednesday, while delivering a speech, that "energy abundance sparks economic abundance."

He hailed the World Bank's recent announcement that it would seek to remove the prohibition on support for nuclear energy. This could "revolutionize energy supply for many emerging markets," he stated.

Bessent added that the bank should go further in "giving countries access to all technologies that can provide affordable baseload generation." He called on the bank to be "tech neutral" and prioritize "affordability" in energy investment.
