Biden, Erdogan discuss Sweden's NATO membership

United States President Joe Biden in a telephone call with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the importance of Sweden joining the NATO alliance, the White House confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, Sweden must become an ally "as soon as possible." It was also said that the two countries agreed to maintain close contact ahead of the NATO summit to be held in July 2024 in Washington.

Earlier, it was reported that during this call, the Turkish president urged the US to stop supporting Israel, explaining that "the sooner the US withdraws its support for Israel, the sooner a ceasefire will be agreed."
