Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (left) discussed possible investments in Central America to limit the migration from the region with his United States counterpart Joe Biden on Friday in a telephone call.
After the conversation, Lopez Obrador noted that the discussion was "cordial" and that they spoke of "issues of interest to the bilateral relationship," announcing that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will visit Washington on Monday to "advance on issues of cooperation for development and the Summit of the Americas."
Earlier, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki commented that the two leaders are focused on reducing migration along the US southern border once the health order is lifted, ruling out any type of "threat" toward the Mexican president. The Biden Administration is seeking to end Title 42 introduced by former US President Donald Trump which banned asylum seekers from entering the country in 2020 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
