United States President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday a new security assistance package for Ukraine worth $425 million, the White House said.

Biden spoke with his Ukrainian colleague Volodymyr Zelensky and reiterated Washington's commitment to bolstering Kiev's defense in its ongoing conflict against Russia. The new package is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's air defense, providing additional artillery systems, and "significant quantities" of ammunition. Furthermore, the defense package will include new armored vehicles for Ukraine's armed forces as Russian forces continue their advance in the Donetsk Region.

The two leaders also agreed to hold a virtual conference of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in November to discuss additional funding for Ukraine's military.
