United States President Joe Biden confirmed that the US and the United Kingdom forces, supported by Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, "successfully" started the strikes targeting different sites in Yemen used by Houthi rebels.
"These strikes are in direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea - including the use of anti-ship ballistic missiles for the first time in history," Biden said in a statement. Additionally, he stressed that the recent Houthi attacks affected more than 50 nations and that crews of 20 countries were threatened, or even taken hostage, by Houthis.
"I will not hesitate to direct further measures to protect our people and the free flow of international commerce as necessary," the US head of state concluded.
