Biden said to unveil new Patriot system for Kiev

United States President Joe Biden is set to announce a fresh $225 million military equipment package for Ukraine during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later in the day. Namely, the aid includes the provision of a second Patriot air defense system to Kiev, The Associated Press reported on Thursday, citing two American officials.

The funding for this additional system will be sourced through presidential drawdown authority. This allows the military to directly allocate the system from its existing stocks and rapidly deliver it to Ukraine.

Zelensky, who is currently attending the NATO summit in Washington DC, has repeatedly pleaded for more US-made Patriot systems to enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities against Russia.
