United States President Joe Biden on Sunday addressed the release of the first American captive by the Palestinian branch of Hamas, stating that the girl in question is now "safely in Israel."
Expressing hope that the release is not the last, Biden emphasized the need to find a way to secure a safe return of all captives. The head of state said he thinks that "all players in the region" share Washington's goal of releasing hostages and are equally reluctant to have Hamas in control of any parts of Gaza.
The four-year-old girl was freed on the third day of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which was agreed on in order for the two sides to exchange captives.
