United States President Joe Biden is expected to release an executive order within a week ordering government-wide agencies to study cryptocurrencies and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), a report published on Thursday by Yahoo Finance said.
The order will aim to organize the study of a CBDC by asking some agencies to prepare a report on the future of money and payment systems, according to sources familiar with the matter. Some of these institutions are the Departments of Treasury, State, Justice, and Homeland Security.
The Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy will be responsible for assessing what might be needed to support a CBDC system.
