Representatives of United States President Donald Trump's family discussed a deal to take a financial stake in the US branch of Binance, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Thursday. At the same time, Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao was said to be looking for a pardon from the president.
The deal would involve Binance returning to the US and would be carried out through World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency venture backed by the president's family, sources familiar with the matter told WSJ. Additionally, Trump's Middle East and Ukraine envoy Steve Witkoff was said to have played a role in talks with Binance. The White House, on the other hand, denied Witkoff's involvement.
Binance is currently the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world in terms of daily trading volume of cryptocurrencies.
