Newly appointed United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Cameron held a phone call with his American counterpart Antony Blinken during which the officials reaffirmed support for Ukraine and Israel amid their respective conflicts with Russia and Hamas, but also called for "humanitarian pauses" in Gaza.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said in a tweet that Cameron and Blinken "discussed the conflict in the Middle East, Israel's right to self defence and the need for humanitarian pauses to allow the safe passage of aid into Gaza" and "expressed their continued support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia's illegal war of aggression."
Cameron, who served as UK prime minister between 2010 and 2016 and stepped down from the position after the country voted to exit the European Union, was appointed as foreign secretary amid UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's cabinet reshuffle on Monday.
