United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Lammy stressed the importance of de-escalating the tensions in the Middle East and preventing the conflict from spreading in the region.

The two parties noted that Israel and Hamas should agree on a ceasefire and hostage release deal "as soon as possible" during their telephone conversation on Saturday, the State Department shared in the statement.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, nearly 39,500 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict started on October 7.
