United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office Director Wang Yi met on Thursday on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' (ASEAN) summit in Jakarta to discuss the relations between their country and their impact on the international community.
"The Secretary emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," the State Department's written statement read. "The Secretary used the meeting to advance U.S. interests and values, to directly raise concerns shared by the United States and allies and partners regarding PRC [People's Republic of China] actions."
"He made clear that the United States, together with our allies and partners, will advance our vision for a free, open, and rules-based international order. The two sides agreed to maintain open channels of communication in the weeks and months ahead," it concluded.
