United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani and called on the Iraqi government to protect installations hosting US personnel in the country. He also urged Iraq to prosecute those responsible for attacks on US nationals.
Blinken and Al-Sudani also discussed the conflict between Israel and Hamas and the need to stop it from spilling out into neighboring states. According to the State Department, Blinken spoke about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and "our work with Iraq and other partners in the region to identify the steps that we can take now to lay the foundation for a just and lasting peace."
