United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had a telephone call during which they discussed the developments in Syria since the overthrowing of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the State Department announced in a Saturday statement.
"Secretary Blinken emphasized the need to support a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political process that upholds human rights and prioritizes an inclusive and representative government. The Secretary and FM Fidan also discussed the shared goal of preventing terrorism from endangering the security of Turkiye [Turkey] and Syria," the department said.
Previously, Blinken claimed that the US was in contact with Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group that played the lead role in the regime change.
