United States Secretary of State Antony Blinked thanked the new Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi on his country's "ongoing partnership on Ukraine" while calling the alliance between the two countries a "truly global partnership," according to a readout from the State Department.
The two officials agreed that the US-Japan alliance is the "cornerstone" of security in the Indo-Pacific region.
Blinken and Takeshi also discussed the importance of maintaining close cooperation between the US, Japan, and South Korea in "ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific," the State Department said.
