United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that his country wants to ensure the conflict in Ukraine does not escalate into a world war.
In an interview with France 2, Blinken stressed that Washington is maintaining contact with Russia in order to address Moscow's potential use of nuclear weapons. "We haven’t seen any unusual movements in this direction, but there is apprehension. We do not rule out such a [turn of events]," the US top diplomat stressed.
According to the secretary of state, it is "critical" that US President Joe Biden prevents the Ukraine conflict from escalating further. "We do not want a war with Russia, and we especially do not want a third world war; this is not what we seek," he insisted.
