Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was charged for allegedly plotting a coup to overturn his 2022 election loss.

Prosecutor-General Paulo Gonet filed charges against Bolsonaro and 33 others, accusing them of trying to prevent current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office.

The alleged plot involved spreading doubts about the election, pressuring military leaders and inciting unrest. Prosecutors claim Bolsonaro was aware of and agreed to a plan that also included assassinating a Supreme Court justice.
