The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Monday that the EU is involved in negotiations that could reinstate its monitoring mission on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, according to a report by Al Arabiya. The Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing Point (EU BAM Rafah) started in 2005 but was suspended in 2007, when Hamas took control of Gaza.
Borrell is currently in Egypt and will meet with President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi later today. He will also travel to the Rafah crossing, where he will meet representatives of the United Nations agencies on the ground and the Emergency Rescue Committee (ERC).
