Brainard: Maintaining US jobs progress 'important'

PA-EFE/JULIA NIKHINSON

United States National Economic Council (NEC) Director Lael Brainard said on Monday it is "critical" to work on expanding opportunities for "working families and the middle class" while stating the US economy stands at a turning point in the fight to lower inflation.

"Inflation is coming back down close to normal levels, and it is important to safeguard the important labor market progress we have made," Brainard said at an event hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City. Brainard also expressed her support for creating a "clean energy infrastructure" to support artificial intelligence (AI) development in the US.

As a former Federal Reserve vice chair, Brainard did not provide comments about a potential rate cut ahead of a widely anticipated decision by the central bank on Wednesday.
