Belgium's two busiest airports are bracing for major disruptions on Tuesday as a nationwide strike against austerity measures takes hold. Brussels Airport, the country's main international hub, announced that several flights will be cancelled due to the walkout, which will affect baggage handling and security services.
Local media reported that while the airport did not specify the exact number of cancellations, at least 30% of departures were expected to be axed, with possible disruption to incoming flights as well. Charleroi Airport, the second busiest in Belgium, is taking more drastic action and plans to suspend all departures for the day. The strike is organized by unions opposing the new government's budget-cutting agenda.
