Berkshire Hathaway Inc. CEO Warren Buffett revealed on Saturday in his letter to the company's shareholders that in 2024, Berkshire paid the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) a total of $26.8 billion in taxes.
"That's about 5% of what all of corporate America paid. (In addition, we paid sizable amounts for income taxes to foreign governments and to 44 states.)," Buffett detailed, adding that this is also "far more in corporate income tax than the US government had ever received from any company."
The Berkshire chief further commented that the business recorded operating earnings of $47.4 billion last year. He also mentioned the firm's growing investment in Japan, stating that Berkshire's holdings of "the five [ITOCHU, Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui and Sumitomo] are for the very long term, and we are committed to supporting their boards of directors."
