Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov (pictured) agreed with United States Vice President Kamala Harris to receive liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Washington starting in June, the Bulgarian government press service reported on Wednesday.
During the meeting at the White House, the US Vice President applauded Bulgaria's decisive actions in becoming energy-independent from Russian gas, agreeing to make deliveries of liquefied natural gas to Sofia at prices lower than those of Gazprom.
Previously, Gazprom decided to suspend supplies of LNG to Bulgaria by the end of April since Sofia refused to comply with Moscow's request to pay for gas in rubles. Since then, the Bulgarian government has repeatedly asked Europe to provide alternative energy sources to the country.
