Tesla Inc. is being investigated by the California attorney general's office over issues with the Autopilot safety and faulty marketing, CNBC reported on Wednesday.
Back in 2022, a customer, named Greg Wester, filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, with regard to "phantom braking," an unexpected and sudden vehicle deceleration or braking without an apparent reason or danger, which was happening when Tesla's Autopilot was being used. Recently, CNBC learned that he was contacted by a California AG representative, who wished to interview Wester, and obtained his comments.
"Tesla should offer customers the option to receive a full refund of Autopilot features if they are unsatisfied with the product," Wester said during the interview. CNBC added that an ex-Tesla employee, who raised his concerns over similar issues was also contacted by the California AG's office.
