California judge rejects request for border wall works

The United States government cannot continue using funds from the Department of Defense (DoD) to build a border wall in Arizona and Texas until a decision is announced on the Trump administration's appeal to an injunction issued last week, District Judge Haywood Gilliam said on Thursday.

Gilliam said that permitting the wall to be built until he makes the call "would effectively moot" the case, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Counsel representing the government stated that they would ask for the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals for an immediate stay on Gilliam's ruling.

Last week, Gilliam issued an injunction blocking the transfer of $1 billion in funds from DoD projects for the construction of the wall on the Mexican border and the government appealed the ruling.
