Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc announced on Wednesday that Canada decided to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity under its criminal code. "The government of Canada has concluded after a deliberative process, based on very, very strong and compelling evidence that the cabinet received, that now is the time," he explained.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly warned its nationals in Iran that today's decision increases the risk of arbitrary detention in Iran and called on them to return to Canada. She also warned its citizens not to travel to Iran as Canada cut diplomatic ties with the regime in Tehran in 2012 and would not be able to provide consular assistance.
