Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk tapped Omead Afshar, current vice president in charge of sales and manufacturing, to supervise the electric vehicles maker's operations in North America and Europe, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
The media outlet said that Afshar, one of Musk's closest confidants, will report directly to the CEO in his new role.
Afshar joined Tesla in 2017 and had previously worked in the office of the CEO. In recent years, he has held senior positions at two of Musk's other companies, SpaceX and X, according to the report.
