Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reaffirmed Canada's commitment to its transatlantic alliance with the European Union on Thursday following a call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier in the day.
"In this time of global uncertainty, we’re focused on making our relationship even stronger," the prime minister wrote on X, while Von der Leyen called Canada a "trusted ally" in her own post and revealed that expanded cooperation in defense and continued joint support for Ukraine were also discussed during the call. The exchange comes as both governments prepare to adjust to a broader recalibration of trade alliances across the Atlantic.
