Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Thursday that his country will fight US tariffs with "retaliatory trade actions of our own" based on what the US administration does on April 2.
"We will fight the US tariffs with retaliatory trade actions of our own that will have maximum impact in the United States ... We will respond forcefully, nothing is off the table to defend our workers and our country," Carney told the press while adding he would speak to Trump within the "next day or two."
The newly appointed prime minister stated that it is "clear" that the US can no longer be considered a "reliable partner" while noting that he will consult industry and labor leaders to plan a reaction to April 2's measures. "The old relationship with the US based on deepening economic and military cooperation is over," he concluded.
