Gaza ceasefire and hostage release negotiations are not expected to move forward until the winner of the US presidential elections, scheduled for November 5, is decided, CNN reported on Monday, citing a source familiar with the matter.

According to the source, the new round of talks, which started on Sunday in Doha, was not aimed at securing a ceasefire and hostage deal, but rather at kick-starting the negotiation process after a long pause.

The Israel, Hamas, and mediator countries' negotiating teams also addressed the ongoing war in Lebanon, as well as Iran's regional influence, the source told the media outlet.
