Chevron Corporation's CEO Michael Wirth told CNBC on Tuesday that he currently sees "no signs" that the United States is close to a recession, despite the uncertainty brought on by US President Donald Trump's tariffs.
"There are no signs that we see at this point that we are in or close to a recession. There are signs that growth may be slowing, and we have to always be prepared for that," Wirth said, noting that it is important to take a "longer view" and not focus too much on short-term market movements.
Earlier today, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised its projection for the US economy growth from 2.7% to 1.8% for 2025, noting that tariffs accounted for 0.4 percentage points of the reduction.
