Chevron and Engine No. 1 announced Tuesday they have partnered to develop advanced power solutions for US-based data centers, relying on domestic natural gas. In a press release, the oil company said the project aims to strengthen the country's AI capabilities through energy investments, supported by early initiatives by the new US administration.
The collaboration, involving GE Vernova, seeks to establish a multi-gigawatt power plant and data center by 2027, capable of generating up to four gigawatts, enough to supply around 3 to 3.5 million homes. The development will prioritize "scalable solutions" to meet growing electricity demands. Plans include integrating carbon capture technology to reduce over 90% of CO2 emissions and exploring renewable energy options.
"We are proud to play our part in bringing to fruition President Trump's vision for a new American golden age, powered by our enormous energy resources and unrivaled workforce," Chevron CEO Mike Wirth mentioned.
