Chinese, Iranian and Russian diplomats met Friday in Beijing for talks regarding Tehran's nuclear program, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported.
"The three parties exchanged views on the Iran nuclear issue and other issues of common concern," Beijing's state media said, offering no details. The talks were attended by China's Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday that today's meeting is Beijing's "latest diplomatic effort aimed at enhancing communication and coordination."
In 2018, during United States President Donald Trump's first term, Washington pulled out of a 2015 deal that saw Iran agreeing to limit its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Efforts to restore the pact yielded no results ever since.
