China has not banned the purchase and use of foreign mobile phone brands on its territory, the Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Mao Ning (pictured) responded on Wednesday when asked about earlier reports on the matter.

"We hope all companies operating in China strictly abide by the data security law of China," she told reporters at a press conference while stressing that the authorities found "some" incidents concerning Apple Inc.'s iPhones.

Meanwhile, the China Academy of Information and Communications (CAICT) reported that domestic mobile phone shipments saw an annual decline of 6.8% to land at 18.55 million in July. Smartphone shipments sank by 9.6% to reach 17.29 million.
