Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated Monday that reports of China considering participation in Ukraine peacekeeping missions are "completely untrue."

"I would like to emphasize that this information is completely untrue," Guo said, responding to a Welt am Sonntag report claiming Chinese diplomats had discussed the possibility in Brussels. He reiterated China's "consistent and clear" position on Ukraine.

The German newspaper cited Sunday EU diplomatic sources suggesting China's involvement could make peacekeeping forces more acceptable to Russia. However, officials called the matter "delicate."
