The China Coast Guard (CCG) said on Monday it expelled four Japanese fishing vessels from territorial waters near the Senkaku Islands.

According to a statement from the CCG, the vessels illegally entered the territorial waters near the disputed islands known in China as Diaoyu Dao. The CCG further stated it took "necessary control measures in accordance with the law and issued warnings to drive [the vessels] away." It warned Japan to "immediately cease all illegal activities in these waters."

The islands, located between Taiwan and Japan's Ryukyu Islands, remain disputed between China and Taiwan on one hand, and Japan on the other. Tokyo currently administers the islands as a part of the Okinawa Prefecture.
