World No. 1 men's tennis player Jannik Sinner will be banned from competing for three months after reaching a settlement in his doping case, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on Saturday.
It was decided that Sinner will not play between February 9 and May 4 and return for the Italian Open in Rome. In the meantime, he will miss out on four other Masters 1000 tournaments, in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid.
The controversy arose after it was revealed that the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) decided not to sanction Sinner after he tested positive for a banned substance, Clostebol. The ITIA accepted Sinner's explanation of an accidental contamination.
