China names Xie Feng deputy foreign minister

Beijing appointed former commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Xie Feng, as the country's new deputy minister of foreign affairs, succeeding Zheng Zeguang, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.

According to a statement released by the ministry, Xie will focus on policy planning, as well as on diplomatic relations with North America, Oceania, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Previously, he has been serving as the Foreign Ministry's commissioner in Hong Kong since 2017.
