The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that the Chinese government is imposing sanctions on nine United States companies, including Sierra Nevada Corp. The ministry said the measures come in response to Washington's decision to sell weapons to Taiwan, claiming the sale "seriously violates" the one-China principle and its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The companies are subject to an asset freeze, and companies and individuals are prohibited from engaging in transactions, cooperation and other activities with them on Chinese territory. The sanctions are effective immediately, the ministry added.
