The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) announced on Monday that it has signed agreements with Chinese vaccine makers Sinovac and Sinopharm, under which they are expected to deliver 550 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the COVAX program.
"The agreements, which come at a time when the Delta variant is posing a rising risk to health systems, will begin to make 110 million doses immediately available to participants of the COVAX Facility, with options for additional doses," the GAVI noted in a statement.
Sinopharm agreed to deliver 170 million doses while Sinovac offered to supply 380 million jabs by the middle of the next year.
