Unlike China, the United States does not want to change the status quo of Taiwan, US Representative from New York Gregory Meeks claimed on Wednesday.

Meeks, who took part in US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island last week, added at a press conference that all Asian "friends and allies" that hosted them "wanted to see" Washington's delegation and even its "soft power."

US Representative for Illinois Raja Krishnamoorthi (pictured) stressed that the trip to Taiwan was important as Washington "wants to make sure that what happened in Ukraine does not happen with regard to the Southeast Asian region and specifically Taiwan."
