China's Ministry of National Defense spokesman Zhang Xiaogang announced on Wednesday that the People's Liberation Army will continue to raise its combat capabilities and "thwart secessionist activities to smash Taiwan's independence."
Commenting on the latest arms deliveries Taiwan received from the United States, which include one F-16V fighter, Zhang emphasized that they won't change "military strength across the Taiwan Strait" and prevent China's unification.
Moreover, Zhang told the local media that Beijing will prevent any "external interference attempts" in its relations with Taiwan, which China considers an internal affair. Earlier this month, China conducted extensive military drills near the island, including live fire exercises.
