The Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Wang Wenbin (pictured) responded on Monday to the United States strikes on the alleged Iran-backed targets in Iraq and Syria by voicing Beijing's opposition to violating the United Nations (UN) Charter and other countries' sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Wang described the state of affairs in the Middle East as "highly complex" and "sensitive" and called on all the engaged sides to respect international law and not escalate the ongoing crisis.
China's comments came after the US conducted attacks on targets in Iraq and Syria in response to assaults on its troops in the Middle East, for which it blamed Iranian proxies.
