Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian repeated on Monday that "there are no winners" in a trade war, referring to tariffs imposed by the United States. He added that protectionism "leads nowhere" and that the tariffs will hurt both the US and other countries.
"We urge the US to abandon its wrong approach of extreme pressure and resolve issues through dialogue based on equality, respect, and reciprocity," Lin said at a press briefing. The Trump administration issued unclear guidance on duties on Chinese imports last week as it appeared to exempt Chinese electronics from some tariffs, with US President Donald Trump later explaining they are subjected to a 20% tariff and announcing he will reveal a semiconductor rate in the coming days.
