The Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Mao Ning accused the United States at Wednesday's press conference of "overstretching" the principle of national security as the latter found no evidence to support the claims that Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.'s smartphones feature advanced semiconductors.
Beijing's comments came after US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told the House of Representatives there is no proof Huawei is mass-producing the aforementioned chips. Raimondo previously described the report of the Chinese company using such chips as "concerning."
Huawei has faced a series of sanctions in the US amid the latter's accusations that China uses the company's devices for surveillance purposes.
