Chinese Premier Li Qiang (pictured right) will visit Australia from June 15 to June 18 at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese (left). The Australian government said it will be the first visit by a Chinese premier since 2017. Li will also travel to New Zealand and Malaysia.
Li will co-chair the ninth China-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting, according to China's Foreign Ministry. "Welcoming the Chinese Premier to our shores is an opportunity for Australia to advance our interests by demonstrating our national values, our people’s qualities and our economy’s strengths. Australia continues to pursue a stable and direct relationship with China, with dialogue at its core," Albanese said.
