The United States Senate voted 64-32 on Tuesday for advancing the bill intended to boost the country's chip production and, therefore, its competitiveness in this field with China. The final passage vote in the chamber is now expected to take place in the near future, before it moves to the House of Representatives.
Previously, US President Joe Biden urged Congress to pass the bill as soon as possible, as it will provide incentives and funding worth around $79 billion, while also creating new jobs and ensuring more resilient chip supply chains both for the US national security and the manufacturing industries.
The key vote on the bill was scheduled for yesterday, however, it was necessary to postpone it as severe thunderstorms have prevented many senators from arriving in the Senate.
