Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold told Politico on Monday that she was disappointed by the Supreme Court's decision to overturn a state court's decision barring former President Donald Trump from appearing on the Republican presidential primary ballot.
"It's concerning that federal candidates, at this point, can engage in insurrection and then face no accountability for ballot access," Griswold said. The ruling came as no surprise to Griswold, who had anticipated this outcome based on the direction of the court's oral arguments last month.
Earlier, the Supreme Court unanimously decided that the disqualification of federal candidates under the 14th Amendment's insurrection clause is a matter for Congress, not individual states.
