The United States State Department and the Agency for International Development (USAID) notified Congress on Friday of the intention to reorganize the latter agency, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.
Reorganization efforts will involve "realigning certain USAID functions to the Department by July 1, 2025, and discontinuing the remaining USAID functions that do not align with Administration priorities," Rubio stated.
He stressed that the decision to rehaul the agency and reduce foreign aid programs aligns with President Donald Trump's vision of putting America's interests first. "We are continuing essential lifesaving programs and making strategic investments that strengthen our partners and our own country," the secretary noted.
