Congress reportedly asks Biden to press Qatar

United States President Joe Biden is being pressed by members of Congress to "leverage" the alliance with Qatar amid the ongoing hostage negotiations, Axios reported on Wednesday, citing a letter to the president.

The missive, originally sent to Biden by Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), states that Qatar "has not fully leveraged its relationship with Hamas to ensure all hostages are released without delay." Besides, it mentions that the country is not doing enough, especially taking into account that Hamas leadership is under Qatar's financial support.

The letter to Biden concludes with a veiled threat of sanctions against Qatar if significant progress in hostage negotiations is not observed, underscoring Congressional scrutiny and the potential for legislative actions to hold Qatar accountable. "Congress is watching closely," it says.
